Event information
WOWZULU’s Creative Crafts tour is a hands-on experience where guests learn the traditional craft skills of the Zulu people in the Drakensberg escarpment. The tour takes place in a traditional rondavel or under a tree outside, where guests sit on the floor and learn basket weaving from the locals using grasses found on the mountain’s slopes.
Master African bead workers meet tour participants in the hills in the Isandlwana village to teach them to create their own beaded ‘Zulu love letter’. Crafters then travel to KwaNzimakwe on the South Coast to learn about screenprinting and create a design of their own with unique colours.
The tour is operated by WOWZULU, a leading South African tourism operator that prioritises sustainability. WOWZULU offers 7 tourist destinations in KwaZulu Natal such as St. Lucia, Durban, and Ballito.
WOWZULU also helps local community markets that sell locally and sustainably sourced goods such as woven baskets, embroidery, mats, and screen printed bags. Organic and agro-processed health and food products infused with traditional herbs, honey and marula jams can also be purchased in the markets during the WOWZULU tours.
