Event information
The annual FNB Wine2Whales MTB race features 3 x three day events for the most adventurous of mountain bikers: the Chardonnay, the Pinotage and the Shiraz, aptly named after the wines of the area. It describes itself as "The race with serious gees".
Teams of two can register for any or all of the races, with the options for meals and tents (from basic to luxury). The category of each team is determined by the age of the youngest rider,
Established in 2009, the biggest drawcard of Wines2Whales has always undoubtedly been the route, which has been perfected over the years. Like a fine wine, the race has only improved with time. In 2024, the race goes back to its roots, tackling the original route from Lourensford Wine Estate, through the Oak Valley Estate, to the coastal town of Hermanus at the Benguela Cove Wine Estate.
The route is packed with sections that both thrill and torment, with incredible views, new trails, and even a few old favourites. The Chardonnay event takes place from 1 to 3 November, the Pinotage from 4 to 6 November and the Shiraz from 8 to 10 November. The events are divided into three stages spread between the three-day events, starting with breakfast and ending with awards and dinner on the first two nights, with a prize giving on the final afternoon.
