Winelands Light Railway, located on the R304 in Koelenhof, offers miniature train rides designed for family fun. Opened in December 2019, the 760m track takes visitors on a seven-minute journey, with trains running every weekend, public holiday, and during school holidays.
The park features two locally built electric engines, Dozer and Fritz, operating throughout the day, while a steam engine joins the fleet on weekends between 11:00 and 15:00, weather permitting. Entry includes either a single ride or unlimited rides, and an annual pass is available for frequent visitors.
Families are encouraged to bring picnic baskets and spend the day on shaded lawns, with a kiosk providing coffee, popcorn, and other refreshments. While alcohol, braais, and gazebos are not permitted, children can bring along bicycles and scooters to enjoy between rides.
The railway is pet-friendly, with dogs welcome on leashes, and it also serves as a venue for special occasions such as children’s birthday parties, gender reveals, baby showers, and school outings. Corporate and family events can be hosted in the park as well, making it a versatile outdoor space for gatherings.
