Event information
AVA Gallery hosts two walkabouts this month that are free and open to the public. Three exhibiting artists explain their processes and practices while art lovers connect with their works.
The first walkabout takes place on 3 August, and features Nina Kruger and Naisula. Kruger gives an inside-look into her fibre-art exhibition titled 'Infinite Threads', which features an exploration of human experience and its relationship with technological and natural materials. Alongside this, Naisula guides a walk through her exhibition 'Miili Yao (Their Bodies)'. Learn more about her show's visual delving into the distressing realities of sexual objectification and abuse.
A second walkabout takes place on Saturday 10 August, hosted by exhibiting artist Vusumzi Nkomo. Nkomo's work is displayed in his exhibition 'Ityala aliboli', featuring a collection of sculptural works which engage Cape Town’s history of racial slavery and its effects on hierarchies of human ‘value’ within anti-Black violence. This is a great opportunity to gain access behind the scenes of this show, and experience it through the eyes of the artist himself.
