Un-Touched is a new production by Dance for All, presented under the company's InSPIRAtions Dance and Performance Initiative and funded by the National Arts Council. The work examines how cultural, intellectual, ethical, social and political forces have shaped the millennial generation, exploring themes of adaptability, identity and resilience through movement.
Choreography is contributed by Adele Blank for the revived InSPIRAtions Company, alongside Yaseen Manuel, Allison Hendricks, Mthetheleli Dlakavu, Thimna Thethani, Philasande Majikela and Stacy Barrios for the InSPIRAtions Youth Company. The production includes a live music collaboration with musicians from the South African College of Music, with music interludes composed by Elton Lodewyk.
Dance for All was founded in 1991 by Philip Boyd, a former principal dancer with CAPAB Ballet, building on the legacy of dance teacher David Poole. The organisation runs daily outreach dance classes across Gugulethu, Nyanga, Khayelitsha, Athlone, Delft and several rural communities, reaching close to 1,000 children and young people from historically disadvantaged backgrounds, offering training in ballet, African, contemporary, musical theatre and Spanish dance free of charge.
The production runs 1 hour 45 minutes, including an interval. There is no age restriction.
