UCTSO Concerto Festival

Event information

The University of Cape Town Symphony Orchestra (UCTSO) presents its annual Concerto Festival, in which students from the South African College of Music (SACM) who have successfully auditioned perform solo concerto movements alongside the full symphony orchestra under the baton of Brandon Phillips. The festival serves as a platform for advanced student instrumentalists and singers to gain experience performing with a professional-scale symphony orchestra in a public concert setting.

This year's thirteen soloists are Lihle Mabhula (flute), Sigqibo Tokwe (bassoon), Dirk Nagtegaal (piano), Keon Müller (clarinet), Giorgia Ehlers (piano), Lilitha Nkuku (mezzo-soprano), Helen Liu (violin), Trygve Nissen (cello), Emma Henshall (violin), Daniel Hughes (tenor), Rachel Nell (soprano), Buhle Swelindawo (soprano) and Kumkani Kabane (euphonium). The programme includes works by Damase, Hummel, Ravel, Crusell, Saint-Saëns, Handel, Sarasate, Dvořák, Mendelssohn, Puccini, Mozart and Gluck.

The first 100 UCT students receive free entry on a first-come, first-served basis. Remaining UCT student tickets are R50.
