Two Oceans Aquarium Trash Bash

Event information

The Two Oceans Aquarium's Trash Bash moves to Monwabisi Beach in Khayelitsha for its Mandela Day edition, bringing volunteers together for a two-hour beach cleanup focused on plastic pollution and marine conservation. The event is free, requires no advance registration and is open to all ages.

The Trash Bash is a monthly initiative by the Two Oceans Aquarium that takes place at a different Cape Town beach each edition. The Aquarium is a member of the Mission Blue Hope Spot Network, a global initiative led by oceanographer Dr Sylvia Earle, which designates special areas of the ocean to support marine biodiversity. The Mandela Day edition is timed to the 67-minutes-of-service tradition: as an added incentive, the Aquarium Foundation is donating a children's educational book to every volunteer who participates for at least 67 minutes.

Participants are encouraged to bring a bucket, drinking water, a hat, and reusable gloves.
