Event information
Battery Park links the city to the V&A Waterfront along the canal, with public recreation centred on a purpose-built skate and scooter park and a multi-use court. The site incorporates preserved ramparts from the historic Amsterdam Battery, one of Cape Town’s oldest defensive structures.
The skate park was designed by California Skateparks in the USA with local input from Marc Baker at CA Skateparks Africa. Features include a bowl with spine and pump hump, quarter pipes, a layback bank, gaps, a compact plaza with hubbas and rails, a frame set, and an extended ledge and rail. The adjacent multi court supports basketball and mini soccer, with adjustable hoops that can accommodate younger players. On the water, the canal hosts paddling and kayaking, while water taxis offer a link between the district and the Cape Town International Convention Centre.
A piazza level provides retail and food options overlooking the canal. Each area of the park contains public walking paths and benches. Landscaping consists of waterwise fynbos and other indigenous plants and trees.
