The Turn of the Screw

Event information

Opera UCT presents a gripping production of composer Benjamin Britten's thrilling ghost story, 'The Turn of the Screw'.

Full of dramatic and musical suspense, 'The Turn of the Screw' chillingly confronts a theme which consumed Britten for much of his career: the loss of innocence.

In the story, a young governess who is sent to a remote country house to care for two children begins to see apparitions that she believes wish to claim the children she cares for, and therefore vows to protect them.

The production is staged by American stage director, Harriet Taylor, fresh from her two-year residency on the Jette Parker Artists Programme at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, with set and costume design by Marcel Meyer and musical direction by Jeremy Silver. The Opera UCT Cast, and the supporting Chamber Orchestra are conducted by Jeremy Silver.

Last seen in Cape Town in the early 1980s, this masterpiece of suspense will have audiences on the edge of their seats.
