Event information
The Shimansky Diamond Experience condenses 3.3 billion years of diamond history into an engaging 45‑minute guided tour that runs daily.
Small groups (up to 25) move from museum exhibits into live workshop spaces, tracing the full “mine to finger” journey. You’ll see how rough stones are graded and transformed by skilled cutters and polishers, with clear explanations of the 5 Cs and why certification matters. The experience also showcases jewellery manufacture, where modern laser technology meets traditional handcraft, and ends in a showroom featuring signature designs and patented diamond cuts such as My Girl and Brilliant 10, alongside certified loose stones.
Complimentary transfers can be arranged on request, and independent or group bookings are welcomed at the Clock Tower location overlooking the harbour and Robben Island ferry gateway.
Highlights include a close look at cutting and polishing in the in‑house factory, insights into South Africa’s diamond rush, and practical guidance on evaluating quality and ethical sourcing. It’s concise, informative, and particularly useful if you’re considering a purchase or simply curious about the craft and science behind sparkle. Booking is essential; last tours typically depart at 8pm.
