Multifaceted South African musician, Gabi Motuba brings her new project, The Sabbath to the Johannesburg Art Gallery.
Gabi Motuba’s latest project is called The Sabbath which features a string quartet accompanied by a rhythm section. Her compositions echo beautifully arranged melodies which reference classical, jazz, African and Eastern influences.
In the project Motuba shifted her focus to talk about her experience with grief; as her father lost his battle against Covid-19, during the pandemic. As a result, the project consists of lamentation songs that leaves listeners in a state of melancholy.
She also features on this project jazz trumpeter Robin Fassie, renowned guitarist Reza Kota, Malombo percussionist Tabang Tabane and award winning drummer Tumi Mogorosi.
