Event information
Brett Bailey and Third World Bunfight present the third edition of The Routes of Sound, expanding from a single weekend to three consecutive winter weekends at Spier Wine Farm. The format invites guests to move between intimate performance spaces across the estate, encountering live acoustic sets along the way, with each route paired with tastings from Spier's Creative Block wine range.
Each weekend features a distinct line-up of more than 40 local musicians across the series. The first weekend (3–4 July) includes Johannesburg-based folk vocalists Tubatsi and Chosi, Afrikaans singer-songwriter Magé Troskie, blues-rock musician Cheyenne Hill, Mickey Struwick of Like the Mouse, and Freddy Lalendle of Ntu2ko.
The second weekend (31 July–1 August) features Tshivenda singer-songwriter Muneyi, winner of the 2025 Standard Bank Young Artist Award; Afrikaans poet-musician RFKI with CJ Bergh; indie artist Karla von Solms; and music duo Akeeda.
The third weekend (21–22 August) includes indigenous instrumentalist and singer Sky Dlala, singer-guitarist Maya Grey, isiXhosa vocalist Xhanti Nokwali, folk duo Dead Dungarees, and a big band set featuring Lungiswa Plaatjies, Reza Khota, and others.
Guests are encouraged to arrive early and dine at Veld Restaurant at the Spier Hotel before the performances begin. Warm clothing and comfortable walking shoes are recommended. The event is restricted to guests aged 18 and older. The full programme is available on the Spier website.
