Event information
Heralded as the flagship centre for theatrical activities in Bloemfontein, the Performing Arts Centre of Free State (PACOFS) attracts and accommodates a variety of the performing arts. It’s the home of classic and contemporary local, African and international theatre productions, music festivals and everything in between.
PACOFS is an agency of the Department of Sport, Arts and Culture and is dedicated to the development of its communities. Due to its geographical position, it is a cultural resource that caters to people from central South Africa and Lesotho. It runs an arts development programme that is committed to developing new works and artists in the Free State. It also contributes to the national theatre industry with its touring productions.
PACOFS has multiple theatre venues including the 964 seater Sand du Plessis Theatre with special acoustic and architectural design. This doubles up as an Opera House with an orchestra pit that accommodates up to 100 musicians.
Other venues in the complex include the Andre Huguenet Theatre, the Chorus and Opera Rehearsal Studios, The Jazz Joint: which also functions as a lounge area, and the Sengangata Theatre, which hosts performances and lifestyle events with a seating capacity of 200.
