Firmly grounded in an African identity, and mindful of the value of indigenous knowledge systems and African spirituality, it regards itself as a vessel that supports talented artists by providing a platform to freely express their opinions and to engage with audiences. For these reasons this dynamic space constantly challenges preconceived limitations to creative practice. It also often features dance, poetry and song that mirrors the multi-disciplinarity that characterizes African art.
Their stable boasts the likes of Dr Esther Mahlangu, Mam Noria Mabasa, Dr Willie Bester and Pitika Ntuli. These globally celebrated stalwarts provide a foundation for upcoming young artists from the African continent.
The gallery hosts a programme of solo and group exhibitions each year. It also supports many of their artists in terms of biennales, and regularly implements non-commercial exhibitions in association with museums and national galleries.
