This coffee shop and sandwich cafe, opened in 2025, reflects Observatory's reputation as one of Cape Town's more interesting food pockets. Founded by Carlton, a Capetonian from Athlone's Kewtown, the cafe slots easily into the area's mix of students, creatives and long-time locals. Named with a playful reference to Gordon Ramsay's famous phrase, the venue has become a new must-see spot noted for delicious sandwiches at great prices.
The small space is bright and welcoming, with sunflowers hanging above the counter, sunlight pouring through a large front window onto white walls, and warm wood finishes. The room maintains a lively atmosphere without feeling crowded, while a steady flow of regulars and passersby stop in.
The menu centres on gourmet sandwiches made on focaccia bread. The signature sandwich, aptly named The Idiot, features braised beef brisket, salami, ham, tomato, cheddar, pickled onions, pickled cucumber and roast garlic aioli. The Vegetarian Mediterranean includes basil pesto, grilled marinated aubergine, sundried tomato pesto, balsamic glaze, sliced tomato, mozzarella and wild rocket. Breakfast options, vegetarian selections and hearty meat combinations provide variety across the board.
