The Forest is an interactive dance performance by Prestige School of Dance, winner of an Ovation Award at the 2025 National Arts Festival. The production is inspired by Forest Song, a 1911 dramatic poem by Ukrainian writer Lesya Ukrainka (1871–1913), one of Ukraine's most celebrated literary figures. Her work draws on Ukrainian folk mythology and depicts the boundary between the spirit world of the forest and the human world, a tension that structures the dance production's narrative.
The performance blends Amapiano dance with Ukrainian folk movement traditions and immersive animation, creating a theatrical environment that moves between the natural world of forest spirits and human experience. Children are invited to participate actively or to observe, meaning each performance takes a different shape depending on the audience. Supported by ASSITEJ SA, the South African branch of the International Association of Theatre and Performing Arts for Children and Young People, the production is designed for families and younger audiences.
The run at the Pam Golding Theatre spans more than two weeks, with multiple daily and weekly show times. No age restriction applies.
