The Centre for the Less Good Idea

Event information

The Centre for the Less Good Idea is an inter-disciplinary incubator space for the arts founded in 2017 by renowned artist: William Kentridge. It showcases short form work that is markedly different from what is usually found in a theatre or gallery. The space supports experimental, collaborative and cross-disciplinary arts projects with a philosophy that values process over the end result.

For two seasons each year, the Centre brings together a varied mix of artists with curators to create ensemble work that combines text, dance, music, image and performance.

A season is a series of performances lasting a few days driven by a specific theme. The 'For Once' programme is an off-shoot of the seasons which presents a performance that can only be seen for one night only.

From inception the Centre has cultivated a solid culture of filming and archiving its work and process. Owing to this and the cross-disciplinary nature of its productions, it has been experimenting with digital platforms since long before the global pandemic.
