The Cape Gallery is home to some of the oldest galleries, antique shops, and auction houses in Cape Town.
Rotating exhibitions add to the diverse and often eclectic mix of work on show. This gallery seeks to expose art that expresses a love for the African continent and carries its distinctive cultural stamp.
Central to the tradition of South African painting is an abiding love of the land. Early Cape painters were 'reporters' who described the topography, flora and fauna of this new land, a conservative approach which is still favoured by the gallery's clients today.
Recently the emergence of vibrant street art has added an essentially African character to the work on display. This includes everything from paintings and sculpture, to ceramics and graphic sketches.
