Nestled within the Welbedacht Game and Nature Reserve and surrounded by the Winterhoek Mountains, The Blue Butterfly retreat centre promotes the healing power of the outdoors. The centre is a restored and refurbished thatched barn with valley and mountain views from every window.
Its attractions and activities include walking the nature trails which meander through the Fynbos, rhenosterveld and wetland areas of the reserve. The hikes vary from 15 minutes to two hours. There are options to go mountain biking; explore the labyrinth; swim in the dam; go fishing, horse riding or birding or to view the wildlife which includes pole cats, springbok, zebra and black wildebeest.
Exploring the historic town of Tulbagh, which is a 10 minutes’ drive from Welbedacht, is recommended. The town boasts Cape Dutch architecture, a number of restaurants and stores, a museum and monuments with olive groves, orchards and vineyards in the surrounding areas.
On offer are a variety of retreats including private self-catering retreats and private catered retreats for groups. Alternatively there’s the option to host a retreat at the venue. The centre doubles up as a venue for intimate eco-friendly weddings, conferences and workshops.
