Manifest Cape Town hosts physician Zach Bush MD for The Biological Renaissance, an afternoon workshop at Spier Wine Farm framed as an open discussion rather than a lecture, touching on soil health, food security, chronic disease and economic systems. Attendees are invited to question and engage directly with Bush rather than simply listen.
Bush trained in internal medicine, endocrinology and hospice and palliative care in the United States, and has spent recent years focused on the relationship between the human microbiome, agriculture and health. His broader body of work, including his recent book Biological Elegance, argues for reframing disease and ecological problems around interconnected biological systems rather than conventional models of control and elimination. Some of these positions, including his views on the role of viruses in disease, have drawn criticism from mainstream medical and scientific commentators, and the organisers themselves describe the session as intended for open debate rather than agreement.
