Event information
Set up in a smallholding in the sandy Karoo, roughly 30km outside the town of Colesberg in the Northern Cape, is a delightful Zen utopia known as Poplar Grove. Poplar Grove establishes itself as the home of Zen practice and allows visitors to stay on the compound for a retreat during certain times of the year.
The homestead is made up of a main farmhouse with outbuildings, a two-bedroom cottage, three hermitages, and a zendo (meditation barn). All the lodgings are self-catering and are without any electricity, providing residents at Poplar Grove a chance to truly unplug from life stresses and experience a technological detox.
Guests can experience Poplar Grove Zen, which is a traditional communal Zen practice that takes place in the zendo in the mornings and evenings. The traditional Zen practice also allows lodgers the opportunity to meet with the resident teachers, Antony and Margie Osler. A variety of birdlife and small game can be spotted on the farm. Those who are more adventurous at heart can enjoy walks in the veld, while those who prefer some quiet indoor time can take full advantage of the small Buddhist lending library at Poplar Grove.
