Event information
The Steenbras Crystal Pool Hiking Trail starts on the R44, between Gordon's Bay and Rooi Els, just after the bridge over the mouth of the Steenbras River. Permits for 2 - 10 people must be booked at least two days ahead of time and these are checked on arrival.
The first pool is about 45 minutes from the start of the trail. This pool is the first of a series. The 2nd and 3rd pools are excellent for swimming and there is plenty of opportunity to jump off the cliffs into the pools.
The Crystal Pools hike fall under the greater Kogelberg Biosphere Reserve, home to over 1,600 plant species and is also home to Chacma baboons. Reserve management tracks their movements and advises hikers when they are nearby.
It’s important to keep food securely stashed away and to act respectfully and responsibly - guests should never throw stones in an attempt to chase them away.
