Neues Lied is a festival for art song with a focus on contemporary music founded by Esthea Kruger in Würzburg, Germany in 2018, and established in Cape Town in 2022.
Artist line-up for the Neues Lied festival includes Violina Anguelov-Hobbs( Mezzo-Soprano), Farida Bacharova (Violin), Graham du Plessis (Cello), Minette du Toit-Pearce (Mezzo-Soprano), Silke Evers ( Soprano), Konstantin Ingenpaß (Baritone), Azra Isaacs (Viola), Juliet String Quartet, Esthea Kruger ( Artistic Direction, Piano), Paulina Malefane ( Soprano), and Albie van Schalkwyk (Piano).
Audience members are invited to a magical sound world in this concert, where singers perform with several different chamber music formations, showcasing art song in a completely different guise from the standard voice-and-piano combination. The programme features diverse works by Chausson, Respighi, Rorem and Bridge, as well as the premiere of the work commissioned by the festival, composed by Adrian More.
International singers Silke Evers (soprano) and Konstantin Ingenpaß (baritone) will be heard together with some of South Africa’s top chamber musicians, such as Farida Bacharova, Azra Isaacs, Graham du Plessis, the Juliet Quartet, and Esthea Kruger.
