The details

The original – and now world-famous – Scratch Patch was started in Simon’s Town in 1970. It is a place where visitors can have loads of fun “scratching” for their favourite tumble-polished gemstones from thousands of polished stones that quite literally cover the floor.

There are a wide variety of tumble-polished gemstones in the Scratch Patch, mostly popular Southern African stones such as Tiger’s Eye, Rose Quartz, Amethyst, Jasper, Agates and Crystals. Visitors can find virtually anything including Lapis Lazuli, Blue Lace Agate and some really exotic stones.

It’s an inexpensive activity and popular with all ages.

Town Cave Golf layout is longer and more spacious than its popular V&A sister course.

This highly-rated, fun and challenging 18-hole course meanders downwards from the back of the Scratch Patch area and through a series of underground areas that feature rock walls, some highly imaginative cave and mine obstacles and ancient relics, an underground waterfall, and fabulous mineral displays that are embedded in the surrounding rock just as they were originally discovered.

There’s even a section that is lit only by UV light, and each hole has been thoughtfully designed and constructed, and carefully finished to a very high standard.

This makes players experience a fun and adventurous playing field.
