Event information
An engaging science and technology centre in Johannesburg’s Newtown precinct, the Sci-Bono Discovery Centre makes maths, science, and engineering accessible through hands-on exhibits and demonstrations. With nearly 400 permanent displays and several temporary exhibitions, it serves both as a learning destination and a family attraction.
Visitors can explore interactive installations covering physics, chemistry, robotics, and space, including the popular digital planetarium and the H2O Today exhibition from the Smithsonian Institution. The 4IR exhibition introduces visitors to technologies shaping modern life, from artificial intelligence to virtual reality, while games and simulations encourage practical exploration of STEAM concepts.
School groups can participate in laboratory sessions across physics, chemistry, and life sciences, with all experiments aligned to the national curriculum. The centre also hosts science shows, art jamming activities, and themed workshops designed to inspire curiosity and critical thinking among learners.
The Sci-Bono Career Centre offers advisory and counselling services focused on science and technology fields, including psychometric assessments, job-readiness workshops, and mentorship programmes. Industry tours, campus visits, and career days connect learners to real-world opportunities across manufacturing, agriculture, and engineering.
Open daily with varied hours across the week, Sci-Bono continues to combine public education and entertainment in one of Johannesburg’s most active cultural districts.
