Sauti Za Afrika, led by Kenyan singer Maria Gakenye, bring a live African Jazz experience to Selective Live.
The band members all hail from diverse origins in Africa and connected through a shared love of jazz at the South African College of Music, UCT. This group of young musicians aims to use music as a way to connect people, sharing their identities and telling their stories through Afro jazz and poetry.
Their music is heavily influenced by South African Jazz, pentatonic sounds and some Afrocentric traditional vocal and percussive sounds. This event serves as a celebration of these sounds and soulful expressions through the gifts of music, poetry and storytelling.
The show features maria Gakenye and Khonkco Twalo on vocals, Girswin Pypers on bass, Reuben Maart on guitar, Mthetho Mathenjwa on keys, and Josh Roelofse on drums.
