SANCCOB’s Seabird Hospital welcomes families to learn about incredible African penguins while supporting their preservation.
The African penguin, with its distinct black-and-white feathers and endearing waddle, is native to South Africa and Namibia’s coastline. These charming birds play a crucial role in the country's marine ecosystems but are currently classified as endangered due to habitat loss, reduced access to fish stocks, and environmental threats.
Thanks to SANCCOB, a team of marine biologists and volunteers from all over the world dedicate their time to saving these creatures. Their specialized Chick-Rearing Unit (CRU) raises rescued or abandoned penguin chicks, ensuring they have the best chance to survive and be released back into the wild.
SANCCOB’s Seabird Hospital tours help support their ongoing efforts. Those who book their tours get to learn about and interact with African penguins and other seabirds, knowing that their visit forms a part of the solution to save these animals.
