Event information
The South African Astronomical Observatory opens its doors to the public for a Heritage Day evening tour, combining a guided walk through the facility's history with a stargazing session. Visitors can browse the observatory's library and its collection of astronomical instruments, photographs and exhibits documenting the development of South African astronomy.
Weather permitting, the evening concludes with stargazing through both the historic McClean Telescope and the observatory's modern Dobsonian telescopes, offering views of celestial objects and distant galaxies not visible from most points within the city itself.
