Event information
The Inside Out Centre for the Arts hosts the Saturday Morning Roger Ballen Walkabout.
The Inside Out Centre for the Arts was founded by artist-photographer Roger Ballen to host multimedia exhibitions based on thought-provoking psychological and philosophical themes related to the African continent.
The inaugural exhibition End of the Game presents the origins of the African safari and Ballen's response to the relationship between human and animal. Part historical archive and part artistic installation, this body of work confronts the audience with universal questions about the meaning of the destruction of nature, its association with power, and the human relationship to the natural world.
Ballen has selected and curated works from his previous series and displayed these alongside theatrical compositions of figures, taxidermies and documentary objects to create an exhibition space that probes the psychology of the hunter and of man's engagement with the animal.
Visitors will receive a guided tour of the Inside Out Centre and the current exhibition with Director of Programmes Amanda Ballen and artist-photographer Roger Ballen, as well as a full-colour copy of the exhibition catalogue.
