Event information
Springbok Arms presents an evening of live acoustic blues and blues rock from the local scene, as part of its Rocktober series. Two acts share the bill.
Riaan Smit is a Namibian-born, South African-raised singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist, best known as the frontman of the band Crimson House. He describes his sound as Afro-gypsy blues, mixing African rhythms, gypsy swing, blues, rock and ska.
The Hugo Veldsman Trio plays from within the folk and roots scene of Southern Africa. Veldsman is known for his lap steel guitar, his love of Americana and blues, and an alternative folk style of songwriting built on the fingerpicking he learned as a classical guitarist at the Stellenbosch Conservatorium. His sets range from gentle songs of hope to stomping blues.
The Springbok Arms has been a live music fixture in Observatory since 1998 and was formerly known as The Armchair. Tickets are limited. The night is for guests aged 18 and over.
