Event information
The PW Vorster Museum is in an original farm dwelling at the Grootfontein Agricultural Institute. It was erected in 1827. Items on show include a collection of Anglo Boer War artifacts, a post war collection, and a large selection of farm implements.
The museum is in a beautiful old building which was extensively renovated in 1887, at which time a gable was added to the building’s exterior.
The Van de Walt family collections are also housed here, and exhibits document the role that both the Van der Walt and Vorster families played in the history of Grootfontein.
Memorabila dates back to the military era, and enlights visitors about the time when peace keeping forces were stationed in the area. One can also view many old photographs accompanied by information about the founding families.
Several post war and farm cemeteries can be found close by.
