Pumula is the isiZulu word for rest. While the word encapsulates the essence of what Pumula Retreat offers, it is also the name of one of the beaches that surround the property. The retreat’s attraction is its location which boasts a quiet environment; privacy and natural surroundings.
It is situated in the South Coast of Kwa Zulu Natal in the Umzumbe area, 120km south of Durban. The nearby Umzumbe blue flag beach and the Pumula beach are untouched. Near Umzumbe beach is the Stiebel Rocks beach that provides a sheltered corner for easy swimming.
Pumula Retreat is nicknamed “The Dream house with the magic garden". The wooded garden which blooms with different colours seasonally offers peace and tranquillity among the trees. It also allows guests to spot local wildlife such as duiker, bushbuck and birdlife.
The venue specializes in wellness and yoga retreats. There is a schedule of various retreats ranging from meditation and movement day retreats; pilates and wellness weekend retreats; Ubuntu Shala Yoga and Music retreats to voice opening ceremonies and sound workshops as well as surf and yoga retreats.
Self-retreats on offer include plant based breakfasts and dinners as well as a 90 minute meditation and yoga class.
