Rand Club invites guests to 'Polaroids': A Presentation by Roger Ballen.
One of the most influential and important photographic artists of the 21st century, Roger Ballen’s photographs span over 50 years. Originally from the United States, Ballen has found a home for himself and his art in South Africa, where he has resided for decades now producing works that are meant to challenge audiences and make them question notions of 'reality.' He has also collaborated with other artists, from Die Antwoord to Cape Town Opera.
In speaking of his black-and-white photographic compositions, Ballen has said, "The compositions are very formal. They are simple; they are clear. But inside there is a theatre, a complexity that reflects the human condition in some way."
