The Cape Cultural Collective's Writers Club presents the sixth edition of its Poetry and Jazz Sunset Session at Artscape's Innovation Lounge, combining spoken word with a live jazz set over 90 minutes. The evening brings together poets Lwanda Sindaphi, Steph Carolus and Naked Soul with vocalists Thami Baba and Enkosi Camagu, backed by the Mamela Band, made up of Charles Louw, Carlo Fabe and Clayton Pretorius.
The series is framed around celebrating heritage through storytelling and African cultural expression, alternating spoken word performances with live musical interludes rather than separating the two art forms into distinct segments. As the sixth instalment, the session continues a format the Writers Club has developed and refined across previous editions at Artscape.
The performance runs continuously for 90 minutes with no interval, and carries no age restriction. The Innovation Lounge is a smaller, more intimate space within the Artscape complex than the venue's main theatres.
