Event information
Tucked neatly at the corner of Castle Hill and Belmont Terrace in Nelson Mandela Bay, the Little Theatre is one of the most sought after spaces for cultural and social events in the Eastern Cape, including exhibitions, intimate concerts, and film screenings.
The theatre is located in the Athenaeum, a multi-purpose venue for the emerging art and live performance scene in Nelson Mandela Bay. Established in the 1850s, the Athenaeum boasts classical style architecture and was declared a national monument in 1980.
The Little Theatre incorporates a contemporary pop art foyer with 250 multi-coloured seats, earning it the nickname "the Smartie Theatre”. The theatre is home to the Port Elizabeth Music and Dramatic Society (PEMADS), one of the most established amateur drama communities in Port Elizabeth. The society performs frequent shows at the Little Theatre every year and can be caught live on Facebook for online shows.
