Event information
Oom Samie Se Winkel on Dorp Street is one of Stellenbosch’s most iconic stops, keeping alive the spirit of a rural trading post. For over a century, the store has offered everything from handcrafted goods and preserves to teas, spices, and vintage keepsakes.
The shop was established in 1904 by Samuel Hannes Volsteedt, later fondly known as Oom Samie, who ran the business until his death in 1944. His legacy continues, with the store still operating on the same site more than 100 years later.
Visitors can browse a wide range of traditional wares, homemade treats, and nostalgic finds, all in a setting that feels part shop, part living museum. Oom Samie Se Winkel preserves the charm of a bygone era while remaining a vibrant part of Stellenbosch’s historic heart.
