Event information
The home is set in park-like grounds, and with its antique furniture, offers visitors respite from the hustle and bustle of daily life, providing a glimpse into the lifestyle of upper middle class settlers. Time-travellers can reflect on an era when the use of wagons was almost as common as that of cars today, and how a former Prime Minister was smuggled from Dundee to Greytown in a post cart.
Antique adornments tell a tale of the everyday life of the Robinson family, who are represented by mannequins dressed in period fashion. Furnishings and fixtures all recreate the ambiance of yesteryear. Some items on display have particularly interesting histories. One such is an old clock belonging to a passenger on the ill-fated ship Minerva. Most possessions were lost but, surprisingly, the clock was one of the few items found undamaged, and still ticking.
