Event information
The Observatory Film Festival, formerly known as the Obs-cene Film Festival, returns for its fourth year as a community-driven platform for independent and student filmmakers. The festival was created specifically to give emerging filmmakers a chance to have their work seen, addressing a gap for creators who often struggle to find an audience for finished projects.
Screenings run alongside a market of local art and craft vendors, positioning the evening as a broader community gathering rather than a straightforward cinema programme. The event is deliberately rooted in Observatory itself, framed by organisers as a celebration of the suburb's creative and slightly irreverent character.
Beyond the films themselves, the festival is built around connecting filmmakers directly with their community and with each other, giving many participating filmmakers a first opportunity to screen their work in front of a live audience.
The full lineup and screening schedule for this year's festival is shared closer to the date via the organisers' Instagram and Facebook pages.
