Northward Mansion Tour

Event information

The Northward Mansion tour provides a walking exploration of the mansion, a historical landmark not only due to its popular known owners and architect, but also due to the history it holds throughout its 52 rooms.

The Northward Mansion belonged to Colonel John Dale Lace and his wife, Josephine, a socialite among the wealthy Randlords. The house shows their flamboyant lifestyle and taste and was built by prominent English architect Sir Herbert Baker.

The tour explores the 52 intricately decorated vintage rooms and guests get to hear about about Josephine's exciting life and how she traded horses for zebras for her carriage. Much more is shared about the wealthy couple and the historical era following the gold rush.

The tour meeting point is at the Northward parking area. Group tours are limited to 10 people and a light finger lunch is served. Bookings can be made with Microadventure Tours.

Due to the somewhat explicit nature of the talks that are part of the tour, guests are cautioned when bringing younger children along for the experience.

Venue address: Northwards Mansion, 21 Rockridge Rd, Parktown, Johannesburg
