Globally celebrated jazz artists hit the stage for this year's NIROX Spring Jazz event.
The 2024 instalment of the event focusses on the innovative, changing character of Jazz as a leading musical genre, engrained deeply in South African culture. Featured acts this year include the Umgidi Ensemble, Simphiwe Dana, Radio Sechaba, and the Robin Fassie Quintet.
The Umgidi ensemble features Ndabo Zulu (trumpet), Linda Sikhakhane (alto sax), Nduduzo Makhathini (piano), Mbuso Khoza (voice), Simon Manana (saxophone), Keenan Ahrends (guitar), Benjamin Jephta (bass), and Leagan Breda (drums).
Simphiwe Dana's vocals are backed up by Butana Ngubeni (keys), Urban Nobela (guitar), Masoja Hlengetwa (bass), and Siphiwe Shiburi (drums). Radio Sechaba is led by Bokani Dyer singing and playing keys alongside Bonj (voice), Shane Cooper (bass), Sthembiso Bhengu (trumpet), Ntsikelelo Mcwabe (trumpet), Keenan Ahrends (guitar), and Leagan Breda (drums).
Finally, the Robin Fassie quintet features Robin on trumpet, supported by Dalisu Ndlazi (bass), Sphelelo Mazibuko (drums)), Gontse Makhene (percussion), Keenan Ahrends (guitar).
The Epicurean Emporium and Bernie’s Bar also provide a variety of market-style gourmet cuisines and a curated selection of beverages for the event.
