Event information
Night of a 1000 Drawings is an art-for-charity initiative, changing lives across Johannesburg.
The campaign encourages the general public (creative or not), up-and-coming and recognised artists, designers and others – to create and donate A5 masterpieces before the event on 7 September. These can be doodles, sketches, paintings, photographs, etchings, chocolate, embroidery – they’ve even had a donation in pewter.
These one-of-a-kind art pieces are then exhibited and sold for R200 each at the world’s biggest A5 art exhibition - Night of a 1000 Drawings Johannesburg.
Doodle sessions will be hosted in homes, restaurants, bars and other venues before the event - keep an eye out. Or check out the Facebook pages for ways in which you can volunteer your time / energies / skills.
By hosting the event in the Johannesburg CBD, the initiative encourages the regeneration and exploration of Joburg’s neglected inner city. All the art on exhibition is made by the public, for the public, and enjoyed by the public. The initiative provides a collaborative stage for good music, bands, DJ’s, poets, crafters and artists (tattoo, graffiti, fine art, the works).
The beneficiaries from Night of a 1000 Drawings 2024 include Lefika la Phodiso, Africa's first organisation to focus on accessible mental health services in the form of art counselling for children in under-resourced communities, and Home of Hope for Girls, a haven for children and teens who have been affected by child sex trafficking.
