Event information
South African performer Nataniël brings his latest Afrikaans stage show, SOOIBRAND, to Artscape, built around a mix of storytelling, humour and new music. The show takes its themes from everyday discomfort, guilt and denial, examining contemporary arrogance and inherited habits through Nataniël's characteristic blend of observation and compassion rather than straightforward comedy.
Nataniël, born in Grahamstown and active on South African stages since the late 1980s, has built a career spanning more than eighty original theatre productions and twenty-one books, alongside television work including the cooking and lifestyle series Die Nataniël Tafel. He is accompanied throughout by pianist Charl du Plessis, a Steinway Artist who has performed alongside Nataniël for more than two decades and holds a doctorate in piano performance from the University of Pretoria.
The production is performed entirely in Afrikaans and combines new original music with reworked melodies, alongside newly written stories from Nataniël. The show runs 90 minutes with no interval and carries an age restriction of no under 14s.
