Event information
Movement Studies & Floor Work is an intensive contemporary dance workshop focused on building physical awareness, technique, and connection to the body through grounded movement. Led by acclaimed dancer and choreographer Thamsanqa Majela, the workshop draws from over fifteen years of professional practice across South Africa and internationally.
The sessions centre on floor work techniques, guiding participants through exercises that explore weight, gravity, and the relationship between the body and the ground. Through structured sequences and improvisation, dancers are encouraged to investigate their own movement patterns and physical responses.
A key focus of the workshop is the use of breath as a tool for both movement and healing, helping participants develop rhythm, control, and internal awareness. Open to a range of experience levels, the workshop creates a supportive space for exploration, offering both technical training and a deeper understanding of how movement can connect body, mind, and emotion.
