Vocalist, songwriter and producer Miriam Altman brings her debut album to the stage at The Star Theatre in the Homecoming Centre. Released on 18 September 2026, the eight-track album moves from darkness through life-changing decisions to renewal, blending contemporary vocal jazz with soul, poetry and African rhythms.
Altman has a three-octave voice, drawing on a classical vocal foundation, and the music leaves space for the voice alongside the band’s energy and interplay. The album was co-produced with award-winning pianist Luyanda Madope and features South African musicians including Tendai Shoko, Sunnyboy Mthimunye, Lungile Kunene, Tlale Makhene, Dalisu Ndlazi and Kuki Mokubetsi.
The title track grew from an image Altman found after moving to Cape Town, a wall at home covered in black caterpillars with few butterflies emerging. The songs include the jazz-funk track It’s Over and A Spirit Awakened, which pairs vocal improvisation with a propulsive groove.
The concert is shaped around the album’s journey from longing and struggle to celebration, with grand piano and a full band. Guests must be 13 or older.
