The Philharmonia Choir of Cape Town presents two sacred works by Felix Mendelssohn under German conductor Dr Martin Berger. The choir is joined by Stellenbosch University's Schola Cantorum and the male voices of Germany's Essener Domsingknaben.
The programme pairs Lobgesang (Hymn of Praise), a symphony-cantata celebrating hope and enlightenment, with Psalm 42, a work noted for its lyrical beauty and spiritual reflection. Berger is a former Director of Music (Domkapellmeister) at Würzburg Cathedral, with a career spanning conducting, scholarship and choir direction across Europe and South Africa.
The Philharmonia Choir was founded in 1967 and has performed Handel's Messiah every Easter since 1968. Secure, guarded parking is available on the Grand Parade at the City Hall end. Students and pensioners on discounted tickets must show valid ID at the door.
