Event information
March of Freedom is a multidisciplinary heritage concert that commemorates the historic desegregation of South African theatres in March 1978, when stages once divided by race began to open to all performers.
Through music, dance, opera, resistance songs, and narration, the production traces the journey from exclusion and rupture to resistance, unity, and rebirth. Featuring four lead vocalists representing Black, White, Coloured, and Indian communities, alongside a choir, dancers, and live band, the concert educates audiences about this pivotal cultural turning point while celebrating the shared artistic identity that emerged from it.
Beloved stage legends Amanda Strydom, Thembi Mtshali-Jones and Loukmaan Adams, alongside Nuur Leeman, will lead you through South Africa’s theatrical and musical heritage - from the segregated stages of the past to the vibrant, multicultural present.
A special guest appearance by inspirational dancer and Britain’s Got Talent finalist Musa Motha is not to be missed.
