Mandla Mlangeni, the Standard Bank Young Artist for Jazz 2019, performs at The Athletic Club & Social with a group of highly energetic and vibrant musicians.
The performance features Afrika Mkhize on piano, Reza Khota on guitar, Nic Williams on bass, and Joshua Klien on drums.
Mlangeni, who is normally based in Johannesburg, is a trumpeter, composer, and bandleader, and is a member of the SAMA-nominated group Amandla Freedom Ensemble. He has toured extensively with the Cape Town Opera. Notably, his musical production 'Oratorio For A Forgotten Youth' premiered at the Artscape Opera House.
Mandla is deeply involved with the Tune Recreation Committee, a group he founded to conduct music workshops and provide healing to disenfranchised communities.
