Event information
Mandisi Dyantyis, presented by Real Wired Music, performs a one-night-only symphonic concert at the Artscape Opera House with the Cape Town Philharmonic Orchestra. Orchestral arrangements of compositions from his albums Cwaka (2021), Somandla (2018) and Intlambululu: Ukuhlambulula (2025) have been developed specifically for the concert, giving each piece a new orchestral dimension alongside his regular band and backing singers.
Dyantyis was born in Gqeberha in 1983 and completed a Master's degree in music at the University of Cape Town, where he trained as a trumpeter, vocalist and composer. His music fuses jazz, gospel and African indigenous rhythms across a body of work that has earned him recognition as one of South Africa's leading contemporary composers. He was the only South African artist selected for Herbie Hancock's International Jazz Day Global Concert in both 2021 and 2024, and has performed internationally at festivals in Europe, the United States and Japan. He serves as musical director of the Isango Ensemble Theatre Company and has collaborated with Jimmy Dludlu and the Abdullah Ibrahim Big Band.
The concert runs 1 hour 45 minutes with no interval. No children under 5; no babies in arms.
