Local NPO Ladles of Love aims to break another world record on 18 July: “The largest number of volunteers paying to spend 67 minutes on Mandela Day in service to grow children in need”.
The public are invited to participate in raising a goal of R5 million for food to nourish over 5 500 small children in impoverished communities. Purchasing a ticket commits ticketholders to spending 67 minutes in active service making items to help nurture and grow little ones at pre-school centres and shelters. Each ticket is also deemed a donation and provides up to 40 meals.
In the spirit of ubuntu, volunteers can choose from various activities including sandwich making, buckets of hope where volunteers layer dry foods for cooks to prepare, craft/soft toys making and decorating, packing nutrition boxes, and creating edible garden kits.
