Event information
Following numerous successful concerts in South Africa and England, British violinist Rupert Marshall-Luck and South African pianist Peter Cartwright, team up to present a programme of music from their home countries in 'Lyric Landscapes'.
These home homages are contrasted with two appealing works from Russian composers in modern traditional or 'neo' styles. From the neo-Baroque elegance of Stravinsky’s 'Suite Italienne' to the rhapsodic lyricism and driving intensity of Prokofiev’s 'D Major Sonata', this programme explores the rich variety of musical expression in the 20th Century.
Delius’s gentle and elusive 'Third Sonata' evokes the English countryside in its pastoral beauty, combined at times with jazz-like influences from his time in Florida. Finally, Klatzow’s bold and evocative 'Sonata' brings the sound world of South Africa into poignant dialogue with the Western classical tradition.
